The Happy South, where Cotton is King, in Dixie Land. - This folder contains a set of tapical southern darky scenes, reproduced from actual photographs, showing the care-free and happy life of the negro down in Dixie. - In publishing this folder it is done with the idea of presenting to the post card buying public the simple, happy life of the colored race South of the Mason Dixon Line, that has been made famous in Song and Story. - This can only be appreciated by a visit to the Southland, and see the negro as he toils in the cotton and cane, happy and contented. - Superstition composes a great part of their life. It is the keynote of their songs, stories and folklore. The negro dialect laconic rambling full of repetitions and bounding in curious elusions which give an unexpected quaintness to the simplest statements. - Stephen C. Foster has aptly express sentiments of the average darky in his beautiful song "The Old Folks at Home." - After a northern tourist's visit to the Sunny South he is more able to appreciate the words in the above refrain.
